Restoration
Services:
Would You Like Your Instrument Restored or Refinished?
Maybe we can help! We have been repairing survey instrumentation
for 30 years and we are now offering restoration services.
We can help you restore your old surveying instrumentation back to like new
condition. Whether it is a simple repair or a
complete strip and refinish we have the knowledge to get the job done right.
One of the most challenging things about doing restorations is making sure we
know what you want when the job is completed. If you use our services you
will find that we use a customer questionnaire to make sure we understand how
you want your instrument. Some things can not be undone and it is
important that we know what you want before we start.
The restoration process is very labor intensive because we literally have to
clean every part from the screws to the lenses. It takes on average about
1-2 weeks to complete one restoration depending on how complex the item.
We also use a baking process on most applied finishes to make sure they stay on
and look the best they can. Especially the crinkle coatings can look
blotchy and spotty if you do not bake them so we actually have a baking process
that we put the parts through that gives the crinkle coatings a very nice even
look.

These instruments represents two different styles of restoration work we can do.
Instruments 1 & 3
have a machined finish and are nice and bright. The 2nd & 4th instruments
are
designed to look like it did the day it left the factory. You can see more detail of this instrument in our restored
pages.
Special Note: Some original finishes can no longer be duplicated due to EPA
restrictions. Please notify us if you would like to try and duplicate an
original finish.

Things to consider!
These instruments were never made to be polished the way we do.
Some of the castings are rough and the dings the instruments get in the field
can keep us from putting a very fine finished polish on them without a lot of
additional work. If you are considering a polished finish please look at
your instrument closely for casting problems and dings or dents in the brass.
These types of problems can add a lot of additional costs to the restoration to
make them look good polished.
We can some times get around these surface flaws by doing a machined finish on
the brass which gives it a shiny appearance but it is not a mirror finish
like polished. Mirror finished show every ding and dent.
