This style tripod would have been sold by Gurley from the mid 1840's to the
mid 1870's.
This tripod is
approximately 52" tall with the legs together. On the wooden cap
someone has put a 1/4" X 20 thread stud.
It is in very nice condition for a tripod that is 135+ years old.
Thread Size 1.85 X 12TPI I believe this was used with either a Surveyors' compass or
more probable the Vernier Transit Compass. I was recently told
this may also be for VERY early Wye levels around the 1850's.

This is a very nice W. & L. E. Gurley mahogany split leg tripod.
This style tripod would have been sold by Gurley from the mid 1890's to the
mid 1920's.
This tripod is 58" tall with the legs together.
This tripod belonged to L.C. Cottrill of Andrew County Missouri. He
was the County surveyor for Andrew County from 1919 - 1920. His name
is marked on this tripod cap and gives it good background that it was used
during this time frame. L.C. taught school in Missouri until
1914. Became the county surveyor in 1919 and was also the Republican
Party Chairman for the county central committee. He died in 1938 at
the age of 77 and it lists on his death certificate that he was a retired
Postmaster.
It is in beautiful original condition.

Very Nice & Unique K & E Extension

This is a very nice & unique K & E extension leg tripod with cap that is dated to around the 1920's.
It is in original condition with all the clamps in working
order. What makes this one unique is it has no pointed feet. It
actually has rubber feet on it which I am assuming it was possibly used for
setups on concrete. It also has three thumb screws on the head so you
can put a range pole in the center and use the tripod to hold the pole
upright.
This will make a very nice tripod to display your transit indoors as it will
not damage the flooring with the rubber feet.
